HEM netters dispatch Wyoming Indian in three sets, prepare for East Regional Tournament

Last week, Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School volleyball head coach Jackie Jones said she was not taking Wyoming Indian for granted although the Lady Chiefs were 1-5 in their conference. Wyoming Indian was 10-18-3 overall and, according to Jones, getting better each week.
Jones words were prophetic as the Lady Chiefs gave the Lady Miners a tough challenge, although HEM took all three games. The first game was 25-23.
The second game was almost as tough to win with Wyoming keeping it close at 25-22. The last game the Lady Miners pulled ahead to win convincingly 25-18. Jones was pleased with how the week had gone for HEM as the Lady Miners head off to the east regionals as the number one seed.
Jones said the team played well considering one of the starters was missing.
"We played Wyoming Indian very much like we did the first time," Jones said. "We were missing a starter, but freshman Becca Million filled in and did a great job."
Jones said she had other non-starters play against Wyoming Indian that did well.
"We also played other non-starters who contributed to the win on Saturday," Jones said. "It was very much a total team effort against the Lady Chiefs."
She said that the Lady Miners were coming together at the right time of the season but she is aware the key for their continued success is teamwork that occurred on Saturday.
"We will need the same teamwork as we head into the regional tournament this week," Jones said. "Our practices will be focused on our offensive and defensive sets."
The Lady Miners will be facing number four seed Arvada-Clearmont from the northeast on Nov. 1. The winner of that game will go on to play the winner of the number two seed Upton from the northeast and third seed Lingle-Ft. Laramie from the southeast later in the evening at 6 p.m. The regional championship game will be played at noon on Nov. 2.
