Miners stay undefeated

HEM Miners takes out Kaycee Buckaroos

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School football team continued their winning ways against Kaycee as they beat the Buckaroos 87-50.

Shane McGraw passed for 117 yards connecting for three touchdowns. Brendon Reeves passed for 55 yards and one touchdown. The passing game was solid, but it was the ball on the ground that churned in the most points.

Head Football Coach Zach Scott was elated with the overall team play, but he had a couple starters besides Shane really take apart the Buckaroos.

“Shane had three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown,” Scott said. “He rushed for 201 yards.”

Conor McGraw, the twin brother of Shane, did score a touchdown off a pass, but he did much more than that in the game that was superb according to Scott.

“Conor had an amazing game defensively and offensively,” Scott said. “He was unstoppable with 13 tackles, four of which were for a loss, and seven rushing touchdowns and one receiving. All you can do is say’ wow.’”

Conor scored 52 points of the 87 points by the Miners.

In addition to Conor and Shane scoring, Devon Grosstick had two touchdowns, while Jase Smith and Brendon Reeves scored one touchdown. Joseph Borah, David Cruz and Ura Schmidt also scored points.

Scott had good things to say about Grosstick.

“Devon had two interceptions and scored a receiving touchdown,” Scott said about the player. “He also had a great day.”

The Miners are first in their conference with six win and no losses. They are undefeated at 7-0 and number two in the state behind Little Snake River.

Scott is proud of the team. He said the hard work during the year by all the players is paying off as the Miners face one more team for the regular season.

HEM plays Guernsey-Sunrise at 6 p.m. on Oct. 25 in Guernsey. The Vikings are 2-5 for the year.
