Tigers dealt loss by Fleming

Encampment falls to No. 2 ranked team in Colorado, uses experience to move forward with program

With only a handful of games left in the season, the Encampment Tigers ventured down to Colorado over the weekend where they were hosted by the Fleming Falcons in Briggsdale.

“Fleming is the No. 2 ranked team in Colorado,” said Kegan Willford, head coach of the Encampment Tigers. “They execute very well and don’t make a lot of mistakes. They are an example of where we want Tiger Football to get to in the future.”

In taking on the second ranked team in Colorado, the Encampment Tigers struggled to make headway against Fleming in the first three quarters. Encampment went scoreless through most of the game as the Falcons scored a total of 34 points against the Tigers.

“We had some missed opportunities early in the game that may have changed the game had we been successful with them,” Willford said.

It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Encampment was able to score, beginning with a 46 yard pass from Dayne Anderson that was caught by his brother, Michael Anderson. A point-after-touchdown from Reid Schroeder put the Tigers at 8 points. Later, a 10 yard pass from Schroeder to Koye Gilbert put Encampment at 14.

The final score was 14-48.

“I think we learned from this loss and look forward to getting back onto the field this weekend against the NCHS (Natrona County High School) team,” said Willford. “The team is very excited to play our first home game of the season, and in 29 years, on Saturday. A lot of work has been done to get us ready to host our first game and the team can’t wait to play in front of their home fans.”

Kickoff between the Encampment Tigers and the NCHS Frosh will begin at noon in Encampment.
