Tigers sink claws into Rams

Encampment six-man defeats Dubois with nearly 30 points in first quarter

Encampment’s six-man program continues to see success as they travel throughout the state. The Tigers were hosted by the Dubois Rams on Saturday and hit the ground running to eventually take down the Rams with a final score of 60-24.

“We were able to get a fast start on Saturday,” said Kegan Willford, head coach of the Encampment Tigers. “The team was ready to play.”

The readiness for the Tigers to play appeared to catch Dubois off guard in the 1st quarter, beginning with a 35 yard pass from Reid Schroeder to Koye Gilbert. A 16 yard rush from Gilbert, a 52 yard pass from Schroeder to Dalton Peterson and a 26 yard rush from Barkhurst put the Tigers at 28 points with Dubois scoreless.

While the Rams appeared to get into the game in the 2nd quarter, it was too little, too late. Encampment scored another 19 points to Dubois’ single touchdown. The second half of the game saw the Tigers score a total of 13 points with Dubois scoring a total of 18.

Peterson was the rushing leader against Dubois, with 52 yards and was followed by Barkhurst with 26 rushing yards and Gilbert with 24 rushing yards.

Schroeder was passing leader with a total of 13 complete passes over 216 yards. On the receiving end, Peterson received 5 passes over 100 yards, Gilbert received 5 passes over 91 yards and Kelton Koehn received 2 passes over 23 yards.

The Encampment Tigers will have one final game on the road as they head to Briggsalde, Colo. to take on the Briggsdale Falcons at 4 p.m. on Oct. 4. Following that game, the final three games of the season will be hosted in Tiger Nation.
