Encampment Tigers take down Mustangs

Encampment football shakes off loss against Pronghorns, defeat NCHS freshman by 43 points

Encampment Tiger football didn’t let the loss against the Farson-Eden Pronghorns faze them at all judging by the score against the Natrona County High School (NCHS) freshman team on Friday. Scoring 27 points in the first quarter, the Tigers were able to carry their momentum throughout the game and out-scored the young Mustangs until the very end.

“Our team played a great game from start to finish this week,” said Kegan Willford, head coach for Encampment football. “Running the football was a priority for us this week and I feel like we did a good job establishing the run.”

Junior Dalton Peterson, as he has been doing, led the Tigers with a total of 7 rushes over 238 yards with 4 touchdowns. Koye Gilbert had 6 rushes over 87 yards with 2 touchdowns and Caysen Barkhurst, Dayne Anderson and Michael Anderson each scored a touchdown as well.

Reid Schroeder was the passing leader with 10 completed passes over 210 yards and 3 touchdowns. Peterson led in receiving with 4 receptions over 128 yards and 2 touchdowns.

While NCHS was able to begin scoring in the second quarter, their 28 points were not enough to catch up with the Tigers as Encampment scored another 30 points. In the third quarter, the freshman Mustangs had only one successful touchdown while Encampment scored 22 points. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers scored 8 points while NCHS was scoreless.

The final score for Encampment was 87-34.

“For our team, being able to run the football opens up the playbook for us,” said Willford. “We hope to continue running the football against Dubois on Saturday.”

The Encampment Tigers will be hosted by the Dubois Rams on Sept. 28 with kickoff at 2 p.m.
