Lady Miners at State

After a great sendoff from students and faculty from Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School and Hanna Elementary, the Lady Miners had a tough go at State.

St. Stephens

At 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the Lady Eagles played competitively for three quarters, but the Lady Miners were able to score more points. The first quarter, HEM was ahead 15-11. The second quarter was tighter and the Lady Miners scored 9 points to the Lady Eagles 8. At halftime it was 24-19 in favor of HEM. The third quarter had the Lady Miners score 15 points to the Lady Eagles 12. It was the fourth quarter that hurt HEM girl's basketball team. St. Stephens scored 15 points to HEM's 4. The surge by St. Stephens put the Lady Miners behind by 3 points when the buzzer sounded. The game went in favor of the Lady Eagles 46-43.

Rainey Wilson led the Lady Miners with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Amy Campbell also scored double digits at 10 points with 9 rebounds. Madison Campbell had 9 points with 7 rebounds.

Little Snake River

The Lady Miners started out strong against the Lady Rattlers at 10:30 a.m. on Friday winning the first quarter by 11-7. Unfortunately, the Little Snake River (LSRV) team regrouped and won the second quarter 13-6 making the halftime score in favor of the Lady Rattlers 20-18. The third quarter did not have high scoring, but LSRV extended their lead as they got 9 points to HEM's 6. The fourth quarter was again low scoring, but the Lady Rattlers won it 8-6 making the score 37-29 when the buzzer sounded.

A. Campbell had 10 points and 3 rebounds. M. Campbell was the second leading scorer with 7 points and 3 rebounds.

Coach Jackie Jones was not fazed by the losses.

"The Lady Miners earned their way to state tournament after a successful regional," Jones said. "The two opponents we faced at State would eventually bring home trophies, so we played good competition."

She said the opening game against St. Stephens was a tough game, losing by only three points in the closing minutes. Jones said the LSRV game was also competitive, so she felt the Lady Miners did their best.

"The girls had a great season and they should be proud of ending with a 16-8 record overall," Jones said.

A. Campbell was named to All-State. M. Campbell and Taylar Scott were named All-Conference players.
