Lady Miners head to Douglas as No. 2 seed in 1A East Regionals

Despite injury HEM girls pull together and play well in loss to Rock River, healthy team looks to Kaycee in Regionals at Douglas

The last regular game of the season did not go as well as the Lady Miner basketball team would have liked.

On Feb. 12 the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School girls basketball team lost to the Lady Longhorns 37-56.

“Rock River shot the ball well against us last Tuesday,” Head coach Jackie Jones said. “We started off very hesitant but played well later on in the contest.”

The Lady Miners had to play without their three point shooter phenom, Madison Campbell who was injured in the game against Lingle on Feb. 9.

Madison is better, but it was decided to keep her out of the game against Rock River.

“The absence of Madison was felt, but Taylar Scott and Amy Campbell played well,” Jones said.

The Lady Miners did not get a chance to play Guernsey on Friday due to road conditions where a no contest was called. Rock River turned out to be their last game of the regular season.

“We are gearing up for tough Regional tournament,” Jones said. “The girls are very excited for it.”

The Lady Miners will face off against Kaycee at Regionals in Douglas. The Lady Buckaroos are 8-18 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The Lady Miners are 12-5 overall and 2-2 in conference.

HEM will meet Kaycee at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 21.
