Lady Tigers go 2-1

Encampment girls lose first, win next two at Dogger Invite

The Encampment Lady Tigers participated in the Lingle-Fort Laramie Dogger Invite over the weekend, where they came away with a 2-1 win against the competition. While the Encampment girls lost against the Rock River Lady Longhorns (21-48), they celebrated wins against the Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings (38-31) and the Kaycee Lady Bucks (36-28).

“Overall, I was pleased with the 2-1 outcome for the weekend and it gives us more information on what we need to improve on to be successful in the Three Trails Conference,” said Clint Bromley, head coach of the Lady Tigers. “As a coaching staff, we are not pleased with the number of turnovers we had on the weekend, but we attribute a lot of that to how young our team is and the number of minutes they have played at the varsity level.”

Encampment vs.

Rock River

The first game of the weekend saw the Lady Tigers suffer a loss to Rock River by 27 points. Senior Noelle Peterson led the team with 8 points, and 6 rebounds, followed by sophomore Grace Tieszen with 4 points and 3 steals and sophomore Lizzi James with 4 points and 5 rebounds.

“In this game, we didn’t shoot the ball well, only making 8 for 43 (20 percent) of our shots compared to 45 percent from Rock River,” Bromley said.

Encampment vs.

Guernsey-Sunrise

“We shot the ball a little better in this game (28 percent) and our execution on the offensive end improved,” said Bromley. “With five of our girls being new to the varsity team we are taking baby steps right now, but every step is important to our future success.”

Peterson led the team against the Lady Vikings with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Fellow senior Lauren Buford followed with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists.

“The key to this win was our defense and being able to hold Guernsey to 25 percent shooting and 31 points,” Bromley said.

Encampment vs. Kaycee

According to Bromley, the game against the Lady Bucks went back and forth for the first three quarters until Encampment obtained the advantage in the fourth quarter where the Lady Tigers outscored Kaycee 14-7.

“All seven girls got into the scoring column for the first time and that is encouraging,” said Bromley. “This game was won at the line with the (Lady) Tigers hitting 13 and Kaycee only 4.”

Peterson, again, led the team with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals against the Lady Bucks. James followed with 5 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists and Buford scored 5 points and had 7 rebounds.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play the North Park Lady Wildcats in Walden at 4 p.m. on Thursday, their last game before the holiday break.
