Diggin' the Dogger

Tigers come away from Dogger Classic with sweep of weekend

The Encampment Tigers participated in another preseason tournament over the weekend, this time competing in the Lingle-Fort Laramie Dogger Classic on Dec. 14 and 15. While there, the Encampment boys kept the competition on their toes as they took on the Rock River Longhorns (81-43), the Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings (76-33) and the Kaycee Buckaroos (58-52) to come away with another three wins to add to the four from the previous weekend.

Encampment vs.

Rock River

The 1A Southeast Longhorns hardly stood a chance against Encampment as the Tigers tore through them, ending the game with a nearly 50 point led. Senior Kyler Miller lead the takedown of Rock River with 26 points, followed by sophomore Dalton Peterson with 19 points and junior Reid Schroeder with 8 points. Schroeder also had 7 assists and 6 steals against the Longhorns.

Encampment vs.

Guernsey-Sunrise

The Tigers carried the momentum from their victory over Rock River into their game against the Vikings. Encampment had a similar win against Guernsey-Sunrise with a 43 point lead, keeping the Vikings from scoring anymore than 33 points by the end of the game. Miller would, again, lead the team with 20 points, and 7 rebounds, against Guernsey-Sunrise. Peterson followed with 17 points and 11 assists and Schroeder scored 11 points.

Encampment vs. Kaycee

The closest game the Tigers have had so far was against the 2017/2018 1A State Champions. Encampment was able to defeat the Buckaroos, but with a 6 point lead. Getting a win against the reigning state champion, even in preseason, isn’t something that should be discounted. Miller and Peterson both scored 15 points against Kaycee, with Peterson also boasting 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Junior Dayne Anderson scored 10 points and had 5 rebounds and senior Sean Stewart scored 8 points and had 11 rebounds.

With tournaments out of the way, for the time being, the Tigers will descend into Colorado to play the North Park Wildcats in Walden starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, following the Lady Tigers.
