Lady Miners face tough competition

HEM Lady Miners take lumps versus highly-rated 1A team and 2A competitors

It is never easy to lose, but Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School Volleyball head coach Jackie Jones knows that it is important to have losses as well as wins, when looking at the big picture.

It is why she played 2A teams in Lusk on Saturday and came out with a 1-3 record.

"We went 1-3 at the Lusk Tournament losing to three very good 2A teams," Jones said. "Once again, there was no give up in the girls."

In their match against Saratoga on Thursday, the team lost the first set 25-23. The second set was less close, 25-19. The Panthers, who have lost only to one team, finished the last game beating the Lady Miners 25-15.

Other coaches might be disappointed in losing four of the last five games, but the Lady Miners faced a truly tough Saratoga team and then three 2A teams in less than three days.

"We learned a lot, and are ready for a great Homecoming week," Jones said.

The next scheduled game is Guernsey-Sunrise at 6 p.m. on Sept. 28 and then Chugwater at 12 p.m. on the next day.
