Friends of the Saratoga Library announced a local couple will be presenting a program highlighting their birding experiences at 7 p.m. on Thursday Aug. 16 in the Saratoga Branch Library. The public is invited to attend this entertaining and informative presentation.
Presenters will be Francis and Janice Bergquist, a husband and wife team photographing and writing out of their home in Saratoga.
Francis has been photographing for the past thirty five years and specializes in the Rocky Mountain wildlife and scenery. Janice started photographing several years later and enjoys capturing images of birds, wildflowers, insects and butterflies. All aspects of the natural world are represented in their presentation but the main emphasis is on bright colorful songbirds.
The Bergquists note, “Our photography has been self-taught; much of our knowledge has been gained by reading books and magazines. It has taken years of experience in the field and a lifetime of observing and studying the wildlife to obtain the images we now have in our files. What started as a part-time hobby has become our full-time obsession.”
The couple further stated, “We travel very little to obtain our photos, the majority of them are taken near our home in Saratoga with limited travel to Arizona, New Mexico and neighboring states such as South Dakota and Nebraska. Most of our songbird photos are taken in our backyard which has been landscaped for wildlife with water, food and cover.”
Many images by the Bergquists have been selected to appear in an assortment of publications such as Wyoming Wildlife, WildBird, Birds and Bloom, Gardening How-To, Pheasants Forever, Birder’s World, Colorado Outdoors, and Montana Outdoors.
The Bergquists have also donated many images to the Wyoming Audubon Society to use in their projects. The Bergquist’s mission in photography is to provide visual awareness of the beauty of nature and all of its inhabitants within the beautiful state of Wyoming.
Following the program those attending are invited to visit with the couple and enjoy refreshments.
