HART awards scholarship

Garden group recognizes David Freeman, hears from Hanna mayoral candidate

The Hanna Agriculture Resource Team (HART) met at 5:30 p.m. on May 29 at the Hanna Market for their monthly gathering of members. The meeting had Jon Ostling, Hanna resident, introduce himself to the group as a candidate for Hanna mayor.

Before Ostling spoke, Rose Dabbs, member of HART awarded David Freeman, a 2018 Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow High School graduate the first HART scholarship for $150.

The scholarship was started this year and will be available next year.

“We as a group want to thank you for all the hard work you have done,” Dabbs said as she presented the envelope to Freeman. “If it wasn’t for you and your family, the garden would have never gotten done.”

Dabbs said she was glad it went to such a committed young man. She also added, “Spend it wisely.”

His mother Ellen Freeman, a HART member, interjected lightheartedly, “Spend it on books for college.”

D. Freeman thanked the group.

After the giving of the scholarship, the meeting centered on Ostling. He introduced himself and gave a background on his life before he moved to Hanna three years ago. Ostling put forth his ideas on what he would like to do as mayor for about a half an hour, taking questions when they arose.

Once he finished speaking about his reasons for wanting to be mayor, he took more questions from the members.

The questions ranged from ordinances members had thoughts about to improving Hanna’s curbside appeal.

The questions lasted until a little past 7 p.m.

The next scheduled HART meeting will be at 5:30 on June 25 at the Hanna Market.
