VFW notes

Members the Platte Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6125 is heading to Cheyenne this weekend for the annual convention. Jaden Campbell will be one of the guests at the convention to recite her Patriot’s Pen essay, Adjutant Liz Wood said.

The VFW has added some active members but is looking for more to keep the VFW going. “In Wyoming, it is difficult to keep active members,” Wood said. “We don’t want to lose our post like so many other Wyoming towns have.”

The organization meets the first Thursday of each month, a change from the past meeting day. The VFW was meeting on the second Thursday, but it conflicted with the Town of Encampment meeting, Wood said. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Encampment and usually last an hour.

The VFW is leading the annual Woodchopper’s Parade, June 16 at 9 a.m. from Encampment to Riverside, and invites veterans to join the ride.

In preparation for Memorial Day, member Jason Campbell’s children helped decorate 48 graves at the Encampment Cemetery, while the Wyoming Congressional members helped decorate 45 graves at the Mountain View Cemetery east of Riverside. If a veteran was missed, notify the VFW at 307-32-7734, so the veteran can be added.

Post elections were held in April, Bob Herring is the Post Commander, Robert C. Kelley is Senior Vice Commander with Teense Willford Junior Vice Commander.

Willis Greenwood was voted quartermaster for the third year, with Liz Wood appointed adjutant. Wood is also the service officer.
