Personal bests, school records broken

Encampment track sets new records, garners individual and team honors at State meet

While competing at State track in Casper, the Encampment track team returned to Tiger Nation boasting state champions, new school records and a 3rd place trophy for the Lady Tigers. Over the weekend, Encampment would have four new school records set.

"Despite the weather, we had a strong finish for the most part," said Kegan Willford, head coach for the Encampment track team. "We had some state champions, some school records broken, many personal bests and a girls' team trophy at State track."

Junior Paige Powell placed 1st in three of the four events she competed in and set a new school record in the fourth event. Throwing a distance of 129 feet, 2 inches, Powell placed 1st in discus. She then placed 1st in high jump with a height of 5 feet, 1st in triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 1 inch and 2nd in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 1 inch where she also set the new school record.

Senior Cheyanne Jordan also placed 1st, throwing a distance of 35 feet, 11.75 inches in shot put while Noelle Peterson placed 4th in both shot put and discus. In shot put, Peterson threw a distance of 33 feet, 3.5 inches and in discus, a distance of 100 feet, 6 inches.

Powell was not the only Lady Tiger to set a new school record. In the 3200 meter run, Amber Stubbs placed 3rd with a time of 12 minutes, 51.63 seconds and set a new record of Encampment. Stubbs also placed 4th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 55 seconds. Grace Tieszen finished the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 46 seconds.

In the 4x800 meter relay, the team of Lauren Buford, Tieszen, Micaiah Pantle and Stubbs placed 2nd after finishing with a time of 11 minutes, 2 seconds. The same team, in the order of Tieszen, Pantle, Buford and Stubbs, placed 5th in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4 minutes, 43 seconds.

Tigers

Sophomore Reid Schroeder set two new school records over the weekend as well in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. In the 3200 meter run, Schroeder placed 2nd with a time of 10 minutes, 15.37 seconds while placing 3rd in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 41.06 seconds.

Jarom Herring also competed in the 1600 and 3200 where he placed 8th, with a time of 4 minutes, 56 seconds, and 6th, with a time of 10 minutes, 59 seconds, respectively. Sean Stewart completed the 1600 meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 58 seconds.

Senior Wyatt Cox placed 6th in shot put, throwing a distance of 43 feet, 6.25 inches. Cox also competed in discus, where he threw a distance of 111 feet, 4 inches.

Kyler Miller placed 8th in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 19.70 seconds.

In the 4x800 meter relay, the team of Schroeder, Miller, Herring and Stewart placed 3rd with a time of 9 minutes, 2 seconds. In the 4x400, the team of Jackson Cor, Dalton Peterson, Miller and Cody Cor placed 5th with a time of 3 minutes, 53 seconds.

C. Cor also competed in the 400 meter dash, where he finished with a time of 57.89 seconds and Cox competed in the 100 meter dash finishing with a time of 12.81 seconds.

"It was a pretty strong finish to our season," said Willford. "I want to thank our seniors this year for their leadership and their dedication in continuing to help build our track program."
