McGraws both place 1st

Brothers each take a 1st at Bobcat Invite in Thermopolis

“Thermopolis was a very successful meet for our team on Friday,” Jackie Jones, head coach of the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School track team said. “Several athletes met personal bests and pre-season goals.”

In the long jump Shane McGraw came in 5th. He came in 7th to score points for the team in the boys 100 meter and 1st in the 400 meter relay with a time of 50.63 and 6th in the boys 200 meter.

“Shane set a new school record in the 400,” Jones said.

His twin brother, Conor, came in 1st in the boys 200 meter race with a time of 23.16. He placed 3rd in both the 110 meter hurdle, with a time of 16.26, and the 300 meter hurdle with a time of 41.72. C. McGraw came in 5th in the boys 100 meter race.

“Our boys 4x800 team also qualified for state,” Jones said. “The members include Taylor Widdison, Kyle Solaas, Alex Claice and Josh Lee and all four ran their fastest 800 times of the season to help earn their trip to state.”

The boys sprint medley relay came in 8th to score points for the Miners team.

On the girls side, Taylar Scott had a very good day.

“Taylar Scott tied the school record for girls 100,” Jones said of Scott’s 4th place finish at 13.16. Scott placed 3rd in the girls 200 meter race with a time of 27.47 and 4th in the 400 meter race.

The boys team placed 4th out of 20 competing teams and the Miners came in 10th overall for boys and girls.

“We are excited for the regional meet in Torrington this week,” Jones concluded.

On May 11-12, the Miners will be in Torrington for Regionals.
