Paige Powell sets four school records at Burt Willford Invite, team performs well overall

The Encampment Tigers traveled to Casper on Friday to compete in the Wyoming Track Classic in Casper where Paige Powell placed 5th in triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 2.25 inches. Encampment then headed to Saratoga for the Burt Willford Invite on Saturday where Powell would set four new school records.

"I'm hoping that a lot of the performances our athletes had will build momentum and help them achieve their long-term goals for the season," said Kegan Willford, head coach for Encampment track.

Powell placed 1st in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 9.25 inches and prequalified for State, 1st in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 2.25 inches, 1st in triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 1 inch and 1st in discus with a distance of 122 feet, 6 inches. Along with placing first in all four events, Powell also set new school records for Encampment.

"Paige Powell had an amazing day breaking four school records in four events," said Willford. "You don't see days like this very often"

Noelle Peterson came in behind Powell in discus, placing 2nd with a distance of 94 feet, 7.5 inches, 1st in shot put with a distance of 31 feet, 10 inches and 5th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 16.28 seconds.

Rachel Stubbs placed 3rd in shot put with a distance of 25 feet, 9.75 inches and 4th in discus with a distance of 81 feet, 9.75 inches. Stubbs also placed 7th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 19.04 seconds.

Grace Tieszen placed 1st in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 12.92 seconds and 5th in the triple jump with a distance of 27 feet, 10.5 inches.

Lauren Buford placed 1st in the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 50.8 seconds.

Micaiah Pantle came in just behind Buford in the 800 meter run, placing 2nd with a time of 2 minutes, 51.92 seconds.

Amber Stubbs placed 1st in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6 minutes, .56 seconds. Stubbs prequalified for State in this event.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Tieszen, Pantle, Buford and A. Stubbs placed 1st and prequalified for State with a time of 5 minutes, 1.21 seconds.

Wyatt Cox placed 1st in shot put with a distance of 42 feet, 9.5 inches. Cox also placed 2nd in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash with a time of 12.18 seconds and 25.43 seconds, respectively.

Kyler Miller placed 1st in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 18.85 seconds, 4th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1 minute, .33 seconds and 5th in the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 8 inches.

Reid Schroeder placed 1st in the 1600 meter run, and prequalified for State, with a time of 4 minutes, 53.48 seconds and placed 2nd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 14.94 seconds.

Sean Stewart placed 2nd in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5 minutes.

Jarom Herring placed 2nd in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12 minutes, 6 seconds and 3rd in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 17 seconds.

Jackson Cor placed 3rd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.7 seconds and 6th in the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet.

Dayne Anderson placed 7th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.89 seconds. Anderson also placed 5th in shot put with a distance of 34 feet, 3.5 inches and 4th in discus with a distance of 101 feet, 5 inches.

Charles Watts placed 3rd in shot put with a distance of 37 feet, 3 inches and 6th in discuss with a distance of 93 feet, .75 inches.

Dalton Taylor placed 6th in shot put with a distance of 32 feet, 8.5 inches and 7th in discus with a distance of 89 feet, 10.5 inches.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Miller, Peterson, Cor and Stewart placed 2nd with a time of 4 minutes, 13.43 seconds.

"Overall, our team had a great day," said Willford, "Saratoga puts on a great meet each year and runs it well."

Encampment has two more meets before Regionals in Lander. The Tigers will compete beginning at 1 p.m. on May 4 at the Bobcat Invite in Thermopolis followed by the Shane Brock Invite in Lander at 9 a.m. on May 5.
