Museum crafts mart

Starting June 3, local artists and crafters will be able to show their wares at the Saratoga Museum at the Sunday Craft Mart. The mart, which will take place from noon to 4 p.m., is open to any artist or crafter but the event is geared more towards Wyoming and locals. Saratoga Museum director Mikayla Larrow began forming the idea for the mart last year.

“I think it really started last year in September,” said Larrow, “We have this pavilion and we really don’t do anything there. I was trying to think ‘What would be a way for us to use the pavilion while supporting our surrounding community’ because we do get a lot of support from the community.”

Larrow said that, as she was thinking of ways to utilize the pavilion, she realized that there were a lot of creative people in the area.

“It would be nice to give them a place to display their wares and get new customers,” said Larrow.

Larrow has been busy mapping out the museum grounds in preparation for the Sunday Craft Mart, which has provided its own challenges due to the landscape. According to Larrow, the museum also received a grant from the Carbon County Visitors Council (CCVC) that will be used for advertising the event throughout the summer. She added that she wanted to show people outside the Valley what Saratoga was really like.

“We’re not a sleepy little Wyoming town through the summer,” Larrow said.

For the cost of $10, those interested in participating in the craft mart will be able to purchase an 8 foot by 8 foot booth space for each Sunday they are involved. If they require the use of the museum’s electricity, there will be a charge of $15.

Larrow added that participants don’t have to be at the craft mart every Sunday and can pick and choose which weekends will work best for them. They will be able to submit their payment and paperwork up until the Wednesday before the upcoming craft mart.

Vendors are asked to have their booths set up by 11:50 a.m. and remain until at least 3:30 p.m.
