Six locals get FFA highest honor

Six local FFA members will be awarded the 2018 Wyoming State FFA Degree by the Wyoming FFA Association, the highest award that can be bestowed by the state on its members. A total of 194 members, representing 45 Wyoming FFA chapters, earned the degree.

“The State FFA Degree is awarded to FFA members who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to FFA and made significant accomplishments in their Supervised Agriculture Experience or SAEs,” explained State FFA Advisor Stacy Broda.

According to Broda, the state degree is given to the top FFA members in the Wyoming FFA.

“Less than 10 percent of our members earn the degree each year, marking it as a significant accomplishment,” said Broda.

The six local members, who are students at Hanna, Elk Mountain and Medicine Bow (HEM), Encampment and Saratoga schools, will receive their degrees at the Wyoming FFA Convention on April 19, 2018 in Cheyenne.

Those members are: Liz Ellis, from the Bow River FFA chapter; Hailey Barkhurst, Wyatt Cox and Cheyanne Jordan from the Encampment FFA chapter and Gage Bartlett and Ashlynn Johnson from the Saratoga FFA chapter.

“Each recipient has shown growth in their SAE as well as demonstrated leadership, scholastic achievement and participation in community service activities,” Broda said.
