Young Panthers ready to run

Coach optimistic in large group with good experience

The Saratoga Panthers track and field team boasts 38 student athletes this year, with 20 boys and 18 girls. According to Rex Hohnholt, head coach of Saratoga track and field, the girls team is the largest Saratoga has had in the last 15 years.

“The first thing we need to do is see where kids are and what events they want to explore,” said Hohnholt, “Many of the athletes we have are still young to this sport so watching them work out and seeing what best fits their abilities and talents will be the first order of business.”

Despite the youth of the majority of the team, Hohnholt is excited for the 2018 season.

“I would say our experience level is very high, even for such a young group. It will be exciting to see how much kids have improved from one year to the next,” Hohnholt said.

Hohnholt added that the experience level of the team combined with the work ethic of the athletes that have experienced success in track leaves him very optimistic.

The first meet for Saratoga will be the Wind River Invitational which will start at 1 p.m. in Pavillion.
