Tigers take third

Encampment boys beat Rattlers, Panthers for No. 3 seed

The Tigers, following a double overtime loss to the Farson-Eden Pronghorns, took on the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers and the Saratoga Panthers to place third in the 1A West Regional Tournament.

"This weekend we were able to put together four good games in a row," said Jake Johnston, head coach of the Encampment Tigers, "The kids played their guts out in all four games and showed grit."

Tigers vs. Eagles

Encampment boys took on the No. 2 Northwest ranked St. Stephens Eagles for their first game of Regionals and would end the game with a 30-point lead.

Freshman Dalton Peterson would lead the team in scoring against St. Stephens with 18 points, followed by Dayne Anderson with 12 points and Reid Schroeder with 11 points.

The final score was 67-37.

Tigers vs. Pronghorns

Following their defeat of the Eagles, the Tigers took on conference rival Farson-Eden. The game between the No. 1 and No. 3 Southwest ranked teams would go into double overtime. Regulation ended with a score of 43-43 and the first overtime ended with a score of 48-48.

In the second overtime, however, the Pronghorns would manage to slip ahead by 5 points by the end and send the Tigers into the consolation rounds.

The final score was 53-58.

Tigers vs. Rattlers

For their first game in the consolation rounds, Encampment faced off against LSRV. In their final game before the Regional Tournament, the Tigers lost to the Rattlers by 1 point. The Encampment boys took revenge upon LSRV and would end the game with a 17 point lead.

"I was proud of the kids for beating a tough Snake River team after losing a double overtime game to Farson the night before," said Johnston.

Peterson and Anderson lead the team in scoring with 20 points and 16 points, respectively. Schroeder followed with 11 points and Cox with 9 points.

The final score was 68-51.

Tigers vs. Panthers

Encampment Tigers and Saratoga Panthers squared off in the final consolation round. While both teams qualified for State, this game would determine which team would secure the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds.

Schroeder led the Tigers against the Panthers with 24 points followed by Cox with 16 points and Peterson with 11 points.

Ending the game with a 13 point lead, the Encampment Tigers would secure the No. 3 seed.

The final score was 70-57.

"I am excited for these kids to have an opportunity to show people what they can do at the State Tournament," said Johnston.

The Tigers will face off against the No. 2 East seeded Hanna, Elk Mountain and Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners at noon on March 1 at the Casper Events Center for their first game of the State Tournament.
