Resurfacing scheduled

Saratoga Airport Board hears report of airport projects

Dave Shultz, of Sage Civil Engineering, informed the Saratoga Airport Board when Century Construction Company will resurface the airport runway at the regular meeting held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Saratoga Town Hall.

Shultz told the board that Century Construction Company, which has been contracted to resurface the runway, will begin the project on April 9 of this year.

The airport will be closed for 30 days while the project takes place and, barring any delays due to weather, will open again in early May. Century Construction will return 30 days after finishing the resurfacing project to groove the runway. Schultz told the board that the grooving project will take place overnight and will take up to 12 nights.

The grooving of the runway will provide an important safety feature as it will prevent hydroplaning should any water be present on the surface. When a plane lands, it will push water through the grooves and off the runway.

Along with the resurfacing project, two other projects are planned for early spring. These include a seal coat project and a crack sealing project.

In other business, the board discussed networking being performed by Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) to make the airport cameras available on the town’s website as well as waiting on defined language for the updated hangar lease agreement.

With no other business to discuss, the board adjourned. The next airport board meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on March 14 at the Saratoga Town Hall.
