Panthers play Panthers, Pronghorns

The Saratoga Panthers hit the road this weekend as they traveled to Cokeville on Friday to play the Panthers and Farson-Eden on Saturday to take-on the Pronghorns. The young Lady Panthers suffered two more losses against the two conference rivals while the Saratoga boys won against Cokeville, but lost to the Pronghorns.

Lady Panthers

When the two Lady Panther teams last met, Cokeville left the Panther Den with a 37-point win. The younger Lady Panthers would manage to score 20 points against Cokeville on Friday, but the more experienced Lady Panthers would still lead Saratoga by double-digits.

Sophomore Taylor Bennett led the Lady Panthers against Cokeville with 11 points and 2 rebounds followed by junior Shiann Baker with 7 points and 2 rebounds and freshman Taisa Daley with 2 points and 3 rebounds.

“The girls played hard this weekend, but came up a little short,” said Heather Bartlett, head coach of the Saratoga Lady Panthers.

The final score against Cokeville was 20-57.

Lady Panthers vs. Lady Pronghorns

The Lady Panthers took on the Lady Pronghorns on Saturday where they scored 18 points against Farson-Eden.

Freshman Savannah Wells would lead the Lady Panthers against the Lady Pronghorns with 5 points and 3 rebounds followed by sophomore Jenna Dew with 4 points and 3 rebounds and Bennett with 2 points and 3 rebounds.

The final score was 18-35.

“Overall the girls are working hard and making improvements on individual goals,” said Bartlett.

After this weekend, the Lady Panthers are now 0-7 for conference and 3-13 for the season.

Panthers vs. Panthers

The last time the two Panther teams faced off, Cokeville left Saratoga with a 16-point lead.

“We felt like we had something to prove going in,” said Jason Williams, head coach of the Saratoga Panthers

Despite a sluggish start, Saratoga would lead Cokeville by the half and put a stop to the other Panthers’ run against them in the third quarter.

“They were able to counter that and … beat them fairly decisively,” said Williams

The final score was 54-39.

Panthers vs. Pronghorns

While they had been able to dispatch Cokeville the day before, the Panthers dealt with a loss against Farson-Eden on Saturday.

“It was a battle. It was a really physical game,” said Williams, “I was really proud of how the boys played.”

Williams added that the Panthers saw some things playing against Farson-Eden that they believe they can take advantage of if they play against them again.

“Farson’s a good team and to go in and battle them the way we did, I was really happy with the boys,” Williams said.

The final score was 61-53.

Williams is looking forward to the last few games of the regular season with four of five of them being played on the home court.

“We always look forward to getting able to play in front of the home crowd and getting to feed off that energy,” said Williams.

The Panthers are now 4-3 for conference and 11-5 for the season.

Saratoga boys and girls have a full week ahead as they host the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers at 4 p.m. on Feb. 9, the Kacyee Buckaroos at noon on Feb. 10 for a makeup game and the North Park Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 13.
