Miners go to Rawlins

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) high school wrestling team went to Rawlins on Saturday in the Rumble in Rawlins dual team tournament.

Lyle Richardson, HEM head wrestling coach, said his team faced highly ranked competition from Colorado and Wyoming.

“We dualed Moffat County from Craig, Colorado, Lyman Eagles, Douglas JV and Torrington,” Richardson said. “And then we faced Sorrocco and West Grand for the placings.”

Jon Nelsen, wrestling at 170 pounds, had some tough matches according to Richardson.

“Jon faced the number one ranked kid at 170 from Moffat County,” Richardson said. “The kid was impressive and Jon battled, but this wrestler was just too technical.”

Nelsen was also matched up against a ranked wrestler who is in the 3-A, who also won, Nelsen went 2-3 on the day.

Nick McDaniel dropped a weight class to 145.

“Nick always battles and he worked hard in the Moffat County dual and against a very physical Lyman wrestler,” Richardson said. McDaniel went 1-4 for the day.

Robbie Marta wrestled at 132 and his coach liked what he saw from his wrestler.

“He was as aggressive as I have seen him since before Christmas,” Richardson said. “Even though mistakes still plague him, his intensity was good.”

Richardson had high praise for Adrian King who was wrestling at 126.

“Adrian continues to improve and toughen up to the grueling demands of our sport,” Richardson said. “I’m so proud of how far he has come and his great attitude towards improving.”

The Miners next scheduled meet will be the Carbon County Invite to held at HEM on Feb. 9-10.
