Miners corral Longhorns

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) high school basketball team faced the Rock River High School Longhorns and had a convincing victory to show fans at the HEM gym the Miners are a team that could do well in regionals.

The Miners took the lead early against the Longhorns and didn't lose it.

"We played well on offensive, attacking the basket in both transition and in halfcourt sets," Cliff Jones, HEM head basketball coach said.

At halftime, the Miners looked to be firmly in control with a score of 33 to 15.

Jones was pleased with how well the team did against Rock River.

"It is sometimes hard to play a team three times in a season," Jones said.

The Miners proved this third time, there was no problem.

Connor and Shane McGraw both scored 21 points. Shane got 8 rebounds.

Jones was happy with his only senior's play.

"Kyle Solaas had his first-ever start for senior day and had 4 points and 2 rebounds," Jones said. "Kyle had not played basketball for a few years and his attitude this year has been great."

The Miners had another player in double digits in scoring. Brendan Reeves scored 12 points and had 8 assists.

"We are getting better defensively but still have a lot of things to work on and improve," Jones said.

He was also happy with Devon Grosstick getting 10 rebounds and scoring 4 points.

"It was a good game in that we did what we needed to do to get the win," Jones said at HEM's triumph over Rock River. The final score was 67 to 37.

The next scheduled game was to be a makeup game on Monday with Guernsey and scores were not available at press time.
