Lady Miners lose defensive battle to Lady Longhorns

January 24, 2018

The Lady Miners basketball team of Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) took on conference rival Rock River and came up on the losing side on Friday at Rock River High School.

Coach Jackie Jones said the Lady Miners played good defense and, as the low score indicates, defense was evident from both teams. The Lady Longhorns scored 31 points to HEM’s 21.

“The girls played against a team with solid post players and a great shooting guard,” Jones said.

She said the Lady Miners had their chances, but it was not to be.

“I feel we had many scoring opportunities but did not execute offensively as we needed to against a good team,” Jones said.

Amy Campbell led the team with 9 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Taylar Scott ended with 7 points and 5 steals.

The Lady Miners had a game scheduled on Saturday to play against Guernsey at HEM, but due to the weather, the game was canceled. It has been rescheduled to play on Feb 5.

The next scheduled game is at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at Cheyenne East against the Thunderbird Sophomores.

The Lady Miners then host the Encampment Lady Tigers at 5 p.m. Jan. 26 at HEM.
