Lyle Richardson, coach for the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow, (HEM) Jr./Sr. High School wrestling team decided to enter the squad in the JV section of the Shane Shatto tournament in Douglas.

“I put our guys in the JV portion of the Shane Shatto because we needed the experience and it was a good tournament,” Richardson said. “Each kid was assured of five matches against kids with similar records.”

The Shane Shatto Tournament in Douglas was on Friday and Saturday. There were teams from Colorado, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wyoming.

“They wrestled in pool action Friday and then were put on a bracket for placing,” Richardson said.

Jon Nelsen, wrestling in the 170 pound weight class, went 3-2 with three pins.

“That makes his season total 12,” Richardson said.

Nelsen got 5th place.

Nick McDaniel, in the 152 pound weight class went 3-2 and Richardson said this wrestler showed a lot of heart.

“He battled through an injury to take third,” Richardson said.
