Benefit for Betsy

Betsy Christensen aggressively fought off throat cancer in 2016 and was given a clean bill of health. Now, with the periodic checkups that were required of her, the doctors have found a spot on one of her lungs. She is currently being treated at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie.

The hospital has a house in Laramie available to cancer patients for a minimal fee while they are being treated. This house, run by donations, even lets the patients family pets stay with them for comfort. This is the second time Betsy has stayed at this house and friends of the family would like to help raise money to donate to this cause.

Accounts have been opened at both Bank of the West and the Rawlins National Bank in Saratoga for those who would like to make a donation. The name on those accounts is the Betsy Christensen Cancer Fund.

There will also be a Benefit Catfish Fry to raise money for the house. Everyone is welcome to come, and help support this great cause for our friend and neighbor. Admission is by donation and includes catfish, hush puppies, black-eye peas and all the fixings. The dinner will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 30 at Danny Hammer's shop just off Dillion and 2nd Streets in Encampment. Watch for the signs, just past the sawmill entrance.

For those of you that would like to bring something, a dessert to share would be great! Also, if you want something other than water to wash your catfish down, feel free to bring your own drink. If you cannot attend, a donation to one of the bank accounts would be appreciated. For more information, call Jim or Sandra McKinney at 307-710-5928 or 307-710-5927.
