Checking out the Little Free Library

Near 20 attend Little Free Library opening in Encampment

Jamis McLinskey got help from his mom, Lesie, cutting the ribbon on Encampment’s new Little Free Library on Saturday.

The library is sponsored in part by the Platte Valley Arts Council (PVAC) and the opening was hosted by The Red Wagon owner and PVAC Treasurer, Alyson Sneddon, with help from PVAC Board Member and Little Free Library steward Leslie McLinskey.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, the nearly 20 children in attendance listened as Riverside Mayor Leroy Stephenson read aloud two favorite children’s books, Milo’s Hat Trick by Jon Agee and David Gets in Trouble by David Shannon. The children then enjoyed snacks and cocoa while coloring turkeys.

This event also marked the first Story Time Saturday. Story Time Saturday will be held monthly at The Little Free Library’s location in The Red Wagon. Local storytellers will read their favorite children’s books, followed by a craft. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the next Story Time Saturday will be Dec. 9 and will then continue every third Saturday at 10 a.m. from January through May. The event is free and open to kids age 10 and under and their parents.

The Little Free Library at The Red Wagon in Encampment is an officially registered location, which means it can be found on the world map of registered Little Free Libraries to help people find and share books wherever they are.
