Lady Miners get mixed net results in Farson

The Pronghorn Invite in Farson had the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School Lady Miners have a hard day on Friday, but Saturday the team showed they could have a bad day in the early stages of a tournament and not let it spoil the whole event.

Friday the pool of teams they had to play were Dubois, Farson and Ten Sleep. The Lady Miners lost two sets to Dubois and Farson and split sets with Ten Sleep.

“As a group, we were not pleased with our play on Friday,” said Jackie Jones, head coach for the HEM volleyball team.

Saturday, the Lady Miners started off losing to Meeteetse 25-15 and 25-16 but it was a different story when they played Evanston JV, winning 25-9 and 25-11.

“On Saturday we started the bracket with a loss against Meeteetse and then ended with two wins,” Jones said.

Arvada-Clearmont was not an easy win. The Lady Miners took the first set 25-22. The second victory had HEM win 25-21 placing them fifth in Silver Bracket of the Pronghorn Invitation.

“The Arvada game was very scrappy volleyball on both sides of the net, and it was great to come away with that win,” Jones said. “We found ways to refocus and end on a strong note.”

Jones was proud of her players coming together as a team when it counted at the end of the Pronghorn Invitation.

“The girls withstood the tough day on Friday and were able to come back as team and end with two wins,” Jones said.

The Lady Miners will face Wyoming Indian 4 p.m. on Oct. 13 at Ethete.
