Lady Panthers narrowly drop sets

Saratoga netters keep scores close against Farson-Eden, win in Laramie

The Saratoga Lady Panthers traveled to Sweetwater county over the weekend to take on the Lady Pronghorns of Farson-Eden High School.

The Panthers walked away from the match having lost, but by slim margins. The Lady Panthers forced the Pronghorns into four games during the set, and lost three by miniscule points spreads.

The Panthers won one game 25-20, and lost three others by slim margins of 22-25, 20-25 and 23-25. The game was the first for the Panthers that counted toward a conference record.

Senior Kaylyn Herring delivered the goods in the defense department with 40 digs for the game according to statistics provided by Panthers head coach Shayley Love. Herring’s digs accounted for 45 percent of the 89 digs delivered by the Panthers. For the season, Herring has accounted for 46 percent of the 411 digs thus far, a total of 189.

The team also racked up 13 blocks during the game against Farson, adding to the team’s season total of 57.

Offensively, the team shut down the Pronghorns 33 times with kills. Ten of those kills were delivered courtesy of junior Tiffany Bauer. Overall, the team has hit 150 blocks for the season, 40 of them being made by Bauer.

The loss to Farson over the weekend was offset Monday when the Lady Panthers traveled to face Laramie’s JV team. In Laramie, the Panthers swept their competition decisively, winning the match in three games, scoring 25-19, 25-13 and 25-18.

A strong defense—exemplified by the team’s 88 digs and 12 blocks—limited Laramie’s chances to score.

The Panthers’ next game is on the road against Kaycee Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. game Saturday against the Encampment Tigers in the Tiger Den in Encampment.
