John William 'Bill' Herring

A funeral service for John William "Bill" Herring, 76, was held at 11 a.m. Monday May 15, 2017 at the Gorman Funeral Homes-Platte Chapel in Wheatland, Wyoming ,with Pastor Dave Weber of Community By Grace officiating. Interment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery.

John Herring passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland, Wyoming.

John was born March 1, 1941 in Encampment to George Ellis and Gladys (Fisher) Herring.

He was raised and educated in Encampment and graduated from Encampment High School in 1959. He attended college at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska, for one year. He returned to Encampment to work for RR Crow Lumber Mill in Saratoga. He went to work for Lucky Mc Uranium Mine in the Gas Hills. In 1976 he began working for Rocky Mountain Energy at Bear Creek Uranium near Douglas and transferred to Salt Lake City to work at Salt Lake Slag where he retired. He moved to Wheatland to work for Georgia Marble taking second retirement in 2002.

He married Janet Elaine Day on December 31, 1962 in Walden, Colorado; they had met at Frontier Days in July, 1962. He enjoyed being a mechanic, fixing things, hunting, and four wheelers.

He is survived by his wife Janet Herring of Wheatland; children, Grant (Dee Anna) Herring of Layton, Utah, Melissa (Steve) Peasley of Wheatland; and Melina (Faha) Foster of Douglas; siblings, Betty, Margaret, Patricia, Nancy, John, Frances, Stuart, Orville, and Le Dawn; grandchildren, Reid Foster, Bohan Foster, Pierce Peasley, Lane Peasley, Trigg Peasley, Claire Peasley, Eve Peasley, and Brock Peasley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, George, Gene, Harry Robert, Lloyd, Kenneth, Cheryl, and Earl.

Serving as pallbearers were Reid Foster, Bohan Foster, Pierce Peasley, Troy Vorn, Lane Peasley, Trigg Peasley, Brock Peasley and Don Herring.

A memorial to The Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 1275 East Fairfax Road, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103 would be appreciated by the family.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland were in charge of the arrangements.
