Car chase ends in arrest

An Encampment man and a passenger were taken into custody Tuesday by Carbon County Sheriff’s Deputies after allegedly leading them on what the Sheriff’s office described as a high-speed chase.

Kermit Stewart, 40, of Encampment, and his passenger Gabriel Dickinson, 23, were taken into custody at about 11:20 a.m. and transported to Carbon County Jail in Rawlins. Stewart was wanted by the sheriff’s department since March 16, when deputies obtained arrest warrants for: alleged unlawful contact; property destruction; domestic battery; false imprisonment and child endangerment.

Dickinson was also taken into custody for pending charges, according to the sheriff’s department.

The chase began at approximately 11 a.m. near Mountain View Estates north of Saratoga after deputies were alerted that Stewart had been seen driving a Subaru Outback at high speed near that neighborhood.

Deputy Justin Hale located the Subaru and turned on his lights and sirens and attempted to stop the vehicle.

Stewart did not stop and led the deputy on a pursuit, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Stewart led the deputy on a chase down Hwy. 504 and Hwy. 130, eventually coming to a stop near Ten Mile.

It was there Stewart and Dickinson were taken into custody. Stewart will face further charges for the chase, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
