William Lee Anderson

William "Bill" Lee Anderson was born in Hanna to Andrew and Gertrude Anderson on July 9, 1936. He passed away on February 12, 2017 at the homestead, where he spent most of his 80 years.

Bill was a dear loving brother, uncle, and friend. His survivors include sister Margaret (Richard) Karstoft of Cheyenne, sister in law Clare Anderson of Casper, and brother Victor (Nancy) of Coyote Springs; his nieces and nephews, Rob (Sandra) Young of Wellington, Colorado, Corinne (Steve) Sibrel of Glenrock, Rachel (Adam) Waxweiler of Leo, Bill (Jan) Young and Julie (George) Davis of Brush Creek, Ann (Tom) Berry of Omaha, Andy Carl (Jessie) Anderson of Bates Creek, Vicki (Bob) Milano of Brush, Colorado, and Ken (Stephanie) Karstoft of Casper, and special cousin Morgan (Kim) Irene of Elk Mountain. Others include 18 great nieces and nephews and 4 great-great nephews, numerous cousins and faithful friends Jack (Jody) Moore of Saratoga and the Konrath family of Walcott.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother in law Ella and Bob Young, and brother, Andy Anderson.

In early childhood Bill had polio and was physically challenged as a result but that did not stop him from being valedictorian of his class at Hanna High School and graduating at the top of his UW class in electrical engineering. From there he went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation in Casper and after that, came back to the homestead to take care of his widowed mother and to work for Rosebud Coal Company in Hanna until he retired.

Bill was a fiercely independent man with many interests. He enjoyed the outdoors and anticipated his yearly fishing trip to Hog Park with sister Margaret and her husband Dick. He was a TV fan of bull riding and UW and Bronco football.

His hours spent gardening, especially in his greenhouse, produced wonderful vegetables. Most of all, he loved family and friends. The coffee pot was always on at his home. Bill was an extraordinary gift and example for all of us and will be missed.

A celebration of Bill's life will occur in the spring.
