Honors, battle and a big win

Lady Tigers honor Mary Martin, fight Rattlers, trounce Cheyenne South

The Tigers started Tuesday evening with a salute to one of their most vocal and steadfast followers. Mary Martin was honored with a short speech detailing her long-time dedication to Encampment sports then presented with two large wooden letters M featuring photos of the Tigers.

After the brief ceremony, the Lady Tigers went to work as Encampment demonstrated good interior passing and scoring to begin their game with Little Snake River. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers had built a six point lead on the Lady Rattlers.

The second quarter was more back and forth as the Little Snake River Rattlers defense began to stiffen and their offense started getting baskets to fall. The quarter had been so back and forth that it took a last minute shot for the Lady Tigers to maintain a one point lead at the half for a score of 24-23.

The second half began with the Lady Tigers losing their lead at the foul line but showing their determination by coming back strong to increase their lead to 41-34 by the end of the third.

The fourth quarter was again a back and forth affair. Eventually a scoring drought midway through the quarter met with timely three pointers from the Lady Rattlers left the Lady Tigers scrambling only to come up short by a final score of 48-53.

The next day the lady Tigers took out any frustrations they had on the Cheyenne South Sophomores winning easily by a score of 63-27.

The Lady Tigers now prepare to battle the Lady Panthers 5 p.m. Saturday in Saratoga.
