Otter Creek flows into Valley

Folk duo and daughters to work with Valley elementary students, perform at PVCC

Folk duo Otter Creek will entertain Valley residents starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19 at the Platte Valley Community Center.

Prior to their performance, Peter and Mary Danzig will be working with third and fourth grade students from both Saratoga Elementary and Encampment Schools to compose a verse to a well-known song which will be performed that evening.

With 10 instruments between them and 53 strings to tune, Otter Creek burst onto the national folk scene in 2012 with back-to-back hit albums on the folk charts. Since that time, they've seen a TV placement on the season 6 finale of TLC's Sister Wives, and the top single of their current album "The Fiddle Preacher" debuted at number 10 on the Folk DJ charts. Otter Creek has won multiple awards for their instrumentals, songwriting, and arrangements of traditional and original tunes.

They have drawn praise from around the country leading Greg Harness, of Rootsworld Magazine, to describe them as "a duo that is both a technical marvel and tastefully perfect." They use their "superb musicianship underpinned by stunning technique" to perform "songs that appeal to the heart and mind as well as the ear."

In addition to their polished sound as a duo, Peter and Mary's daughters, The Three Muses, often appear on stage with them. Drawing frequent comparisons to the Peasall Sisters, their three-part harmony seemingly never fail to charm. The Three Muses will be a part of the performances at Valley schools as well as at the evening performance, where the verses that students compose will be performed.

Admission to the event will be $10 for adults. Children attending with paid adults will be admitted for free.

The Platte Valley Arts Council is sponsoring this event with support from The Wyoming Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, Western States Art Federation, The Carbon County Visitors Council, and the Whispering Winds Bed and Breakfast.
