FBLA students fund trip with service at dog park

Four Saratoga High School (SHS) students, a younger sibling and three other volunteers helped clean up and make improvements at Saratoga's Kaake Walk Dog park on Sunday.

The SHS students, Katie Loose, Sarah Burton, Bradley Bifano and Thomas Ingraham, were members of SHS's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter, and they were being paid $100 each by the town for their time working at the dog park. The money will be used to defray the expenses of the group's trip to Atlanta for FBLA nationals.

Others came out to help as well. Allyster Ingraham, Thomas Ingraham's 9-year-old brother helped out, as did Tom Culhane and Bill Schroeder who also volunteered. The FBLA coach, Jared Mason was also on hand helping out.

A new concrete pad was poured at the entryway, and new pavers were installed around the paths. The pavers were sold to the dog park at cost by Do-it Best Hardware in Saratoga, Leon Heatherington, a proponent of the dog park, said.

The student workers and volunteers spent a full day at the park making the improvements, which were both for aesthetics and safety, Heatherington said.

"Everyone worked hard all day," he said. "Without the students here, it would have taken days to get done."
