Wellness screenings here

Numerous tests available at reduced prices

The annual Wyoming Health Fair blood screening draws will be held from 6-10 a.m., April 12 and 13 at Platte Valley Community Center in Saratoga, and 6 a.m. until noon on April 15 and 16 at Encampment town hall.

The health fair in Saratoga is hosted by the Valley Service Organization, a non-profit organization devoted to service projects in the area. The organization is supported by dues, said Sue Jones.

The event is an opportunity for residents to obtain needed screenings for common illnesses at a nominal cost, Jones said. “It’s way cheaper and you get more tests done for a lot less money than going to a lab.”

Tests available at a nominal cost include Hemogram, Estradiol and basic blood chemistry. The blood chemistry test is 32-level screening for for bone and electrolyte levels, along with heart, kidney, liver functions as well as lipids, cholesterol protein, iron, glucose and thyroid levels.

Other screenings available include: PSA for men; vitamin D; Hydroxy; thyroid panel T3 and T4; hemoglobin AIC; testosterone; ferritin; vitamin B12 and blood type.

Screening for Celiac disease will be available as will bone density tests and Colokit colon cancer risk tests. Online, on-paper and assisted health risk assessments (HA) will be available.

Free blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) measurements will be made. Nurses and emergency medical technicians from the area will be available to assist.

Those who wish to participate are urged to fast for 12 hours before the blood draw unless diabetic and drink plenty of water prior to the event.

Costs for tests are payable on site, as Wyoming Heath Fairs do not bill insurance companies. However, documentation will be provided to patrons wishing to seek compensation from health insurers.

Results of tests are made available online and mailed usually within two weeks, Jones said.
