John and Margaret Whitehead

John S. and Margaret A. (Welton) Whitehead of Sun City West, Ariz., celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Feb. 1. John, originally from St. Joseph, Mo., and Margaret from the Hat Creek Ranch near Saratoga.

They met while John was working on the Union Pacific Railroad (UPR), and Margaret was the secretary for the railroad's superintendent. That was in Rawlins, where they married and had three children. John spent 41 years on the UPR and Margaret was a domestic engineer (housewife). After leaving Rawlins, they lived on Lake Mead, and Henderson, Nevada. Finally moving to Arizona, and have been in Sun City West for over 13 years. Their oldest son, Steve (Robin) lives in Albin, Wyo. Randy (Nancy) lives in Rock Springs, Wyo., and daughter Shannon (Dale Gunderson) lives in Virginia, Minn. They have six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great -great granddaughter.
