Encampment boys add eight

Last year’s season ended in disappointment when the Encampment Tigers did not make it through regionals. “It is always our goal to make it to state,” the Tigers head coach Clint Bromley said.

With eight players returning and eight new players added to the team, Bromley is still working to get the team playing together. “Things looked a little ratty this week. We are trying to put them together, but not quite there yet,” Bromley said.

A huge loss to the team was Luke Pantle, who graduated last year. Pantle was a high scorer and rebounder and a couple of the boys are vying for his position, Bromley said. They have to show the team what they have to offer, Bromley added.

“It is going to take more than one kid to fill Luke’s shoes,” Bromley said.

Another key player was Harold Jackson, but Gage Bartlett has taken over the Jackson’s point guard position.

The boys have attended basketball camp and spend a lot of time in the gym during open gym. “Basketball camp is a big deal for us,” Bromley said. They didn’t make it to one tournament as Lusk was flooded last spring.

The team plays Rock River at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow (HEM) Jr. High/Sr. High gym. Rock River has lost a few key players, but the team has some height, Bromley said.

Saturday, the Tigers play HEM at noon and Cheyenne South at 4:30 p.m. Both games are in the main gym at Encampment K-12 school Saturday.
