Stolen car travels through Carbon County at 130 mph

The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), county sheriff's and local police were involved in a high speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle which spanned 185 miles and one hour and 46 minutes.

The pursuit started after a 2009 Kia Optima was reported stolen in Rock Springs. The incident ended on Interstate 80 (I-80) about five miles west of Laramie. According to the WHP, agencies involved in the pursuit included sheriffs from Sweetwater, Carbon and Albany counties as well as Rawlins, Sinclair and Laramie police. State troopers from Rock Springs, Rawlins, Elk Mountain, Laramie and Cheyenne also responded.

Carbon County Sheriff Jerry Colson said the sheriff's department assisted the highway patrol by making sure the suspect stayed on the the I-80 corridor and did not enter any municipalities. Colson said the WHP performed exceptionally during the pursuit which reached speeds up to 130 miles per hour.

In Carbon County the suspect took the Kia off the interstate at Fort Steele, following the old highway route, crossing the old bridge over the North Platte river. East of the river the suspect crashed through the right-of-way fence back on to the interstate. The pursuit ended in Albany county after stop sticks deployed by the WHP deflated all four tires on the Kia.

The suspect, Joshua C. Law, a 28-year-old man from Morehead, Ky. Was apprehended and is being held in the Albany County Detention Center in Laramie. Law was booked for eluding and multiple warrants for identity theft and burglary. Charges in Carbon and Sweetwater counties for the pursuit and vehicle theft are pending according to the WHP.
