Three arrested for kidnapping, assault and drugs

On Oct. 24, three men were arrested by county sheriff's in the McCarty Canyon area north of Savery, Wyo. for the alleged kidnapping of one victim, threatening that victim with weapons and possession of illegal drugs.

According to an affidavit by Captain Derrek Craig with the Carbon County Sheriff's Office a 911 call was received a little after 10 a.m. on Oct. 24. During the call the dispatcher could reportedly hear shouting that appeared to be related to an altercation.

While searching for a campsite location from where the call originated, the sheriffs were joined by Wyoming Game and Fish Game Warden Kim Olson and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement officer Hanna Nadeau in the search. The Bureau of Land Management and Wyoming Highway Patrol also assisted in the investigation.

Olson said that she was the first on scene and Nadeau was there within a few minutes of her arrival. The scene was a campsite off of Carbon County Road 401 (Sage Creek road) where a recreational vehicle was parked.

After Craig and Sergeant David Perkins with the sheriff's office arrived at the campsite the person later identified as the victim reported being held hostage by Kevin Farley who had threatened him with a hatchet and had shot at him with a black powder pistol. The affidavit states that the victim reported the altercation to have occurred over the accusation of stolen methamphetamine and money.

Farley, of Casper, Wyo., was arrested and charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, and one felony count of kidnapping.

According to the affidavit Mitchel Demetrius Thomas and Patrick John Carroll, both of Rock Springs, Wyo., were allegedly involved in the incident.

Documents from the second judicial district circuit court in Rawlins indicates that Thomas is charged with one felony count of kidnapping, one felony count of accessory before the fact, aggravated assault, one felony count of methamphetamine possession and four misdemeanor counts for possession of marijuana, alprazolam (Xanax), hydrocodone and oxycodone (Percocet). Carroll is charged with two felony counts, kidnapping and conspiring to commit aggravated assault.

The drug charges were filed after a search of the recreational vehicle allegedly found devices for smoking marijuana and methamphetamine, pills not prescribed by a doctor, over $1,000 in cash and 10.5 grams of methamphetamine.

Preliminary hearings for Farley, Thomas and Carroll are scheduled for 2 p.m., Nov. 5 in the second judicial district circuit court in Rawlins.
