Book fair returns with online shopping

Popular books may be bought at the Saratoga Elementary School (SES) Scholastic Book Fair, and the profits will be returned to the SES library for projects and books, according to Addie Fletcher, library aide. If they reach their goal of approximately $2,000, Fletcher said, they will be able to keep 50 percent of the profits otherwise, they receive a credit for 25 percent of the profit that may be used for Scholastic books. "That's how I fund things throughout the year," Fletcher said.

Some books featured by Scholastic for grades K-3 include "Pete the Cat: A Pet for Pete," "Captain Underpants and the Sensational Saga of Sir Stinks-A-Lot," "Frozen Story Collection" and "Judy Moody, Mood Martian." Grades 4-6 can look for "Public School Superhero," "Woof," Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-So-Glam TV Star," and "The Lost Track of Time." These books along with dozens of others may be on teacher wish lists for parents to purchase for their child's classroom.

Children that completed the principal's reading program have a $5 gift card available in the library, which was provided by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

Relatives and families that wish to buy books for the school or their children will be able to purchase online from Oct. 18 through 31, which will add to the total amount raised by the school. "It's a good opportunity for parents to buy things that they know their kids will want," Fletcher said. Although Encampment K-12 hosts a book fair in the spring, Encampment students are welcome to attend this one.

Some books geared towards adults will be available for purchase online, including cookbooks and popular titles including Jodi Picoult's "The Storyteller," Laura Hillenbrand's "Unbroken" and the Divergent series. Books appropriate for middle and high school students can be purchased online to benefit the school library as well.

Fletcher hopes that each student will be able to purchase at least one thing at the book fair, which runs at SES from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 26 and 27. The fair will be open from 8 a.m to 9 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 29 so that parents can come browse when they come for parent-teacher conferences.
