Library system features space-themed reading, teen week and snapshot day

The Carbon County Library has a busy October planned for the Encampment Library branch beginning Wednesday with Out of This World Reads. The Encampment Library is calling all stellar readers to enjoy a space-themed BookQuest. Crafts, games, origami and snacks will be part the event from 4-5 p.m.

On Tuesday, Craft and Chat: Pumpkin String Art will use a pumpkin as a canvas to create an autumn decoration using string and nails. Those who want to participate need to bring their own pumpkin, but the Encampment Library will provide everything else. Join the fun from 2-3p.m.

The Encampment/Riverside book discussion group will meet Oct. 15. Curl up with “Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World” by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter to join in on the discussion. To reserve a copy of the book, call librarian Dawna Martin at 307-327-5775.

Teen Ready Week™ begins Oct. 19 and is a national adolescent literacy initiative created by Young Adult Library Services Association which began in 1998. Preteens and teens are encouraged to come by the library in Saratoga or Encampment to choose their next book from the What to Read Next Jar, which contains the titles nominated for the Teen Top Ten in their respective collections.

Teen Ready Week™ uses the time during October to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users.

On Oct. 20, it is the state’s libraries’ Wyoming Snapshot Day. Libraries will collect photos, comments and usage numbers to illustrate their impact every day of the year.

“We’ve done this for several years now,” Susan Mark, Wyoming State Library statistics librarian, said.

“When we see the faces and hear what our patrons have to say, it really shows how important libraries are to our community,” Mark said. Public library circulation is nearly five million per year, Mark added.

To participate, stop by the library of your choice on Oct. 20 to share your comments.
