Poet/philosopher to speak at PVCC

University of Wyoming Professor of Philosophy, H. L. Hix, is hitting the road to visit communities across Wyoming, engaging in conversations about art and writing. Join H. L. Hix as he explains and shares his insights into the beginning of "Ley Lines" as it originated from two blogs, and how it grew to book and museum exhibition.

Ley lines are the hypothetical or actual alignments of geographically or historically important places in the landscape, such as sacred sites, monuments, and ridgelines. The book "Ley Lines" is a unique anthology that "assembles an array of contemporary poets and visual artists into a single conversation ... Ultimately, this compilation reminds readers how the act of creating art -written and visual-is linked to the art of listening," said Glori Simmons, director of the Thacher Gallery at the University of San Francisco.

UW Art Museum hosted the exhibition "Ley Lines: Intersecting Conversations" in spring 2015. The exhibition referenced the aligning of imagery to written response, generating new ways of thinking about art and literature as a basis for humanist experience, dialogue, conversation, and reflection.

Mr. Hix will visit Encampment High School art and writing students for an afternoon discussion, an act of creating new dialogue with students and teachers, on Monday. He said, "Curating the "Ley Lines" exhibition and book gave me a chance to listen in on working artists and writers in conversation through their work. It's exciting now to be able to share some of those conversations with others here in Wyoming."

The public is invited to join hosts from the Platte Valley Arts Council for a free evening reception with Mr. Hix on Monday from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Platte Valley Community Center. Become part of the conversation between Hix and the depictions from visual artists and writers of the project.

The project is supported by the Wyoming Humanities Council, the UW Art Museum and UW MFA in Creative Writing.
