Get behind the 8-ball to Party on the Platte

Organizers are finalizing last minute details for the 8th annual Party on the Platte fundraiser which begins with cocktails at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Platte Valley Community Center (PVCC).

This year’s theme is “Get Behind the 8-ball” and PVCC’s Executive Director Joe Elder said the event is “racked full of great auction items.”

Auction items include a fur coat, guns, hunting and float trips, antiques and a luncheon with Gov. Matt Mead. There are also a few surprises, Elder said.

Area restaurants are again generously donating tasty dishes, Elder said. Going along with the theme, the main courses this year are a variety of meatball dishes.

The PVCC was built by the people in the Platte Valley to promote educational, social and cultural events in the Valley, Elder explained. “That commitment and generosity has continued every year since the building’s completion.”

The PVCC’s annual fundraiser has raised money for improvements to the theater, the Great Hall, the gymnasium and computer hardware. This year, the PVCC Foundation is raising money to expand the bathrooms in the gym to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Last year, Platte Valley residents went above and beyond by raising money for the gym floor, which has been named the Kirsten Campbell Court. Donations exceeded the cost of replacing the gym floor, which made it possible to replace the floor in the gym and the multi-purpose room.

A dedication of the Kirsten Campbell Court is planned tentatively for October.

There is still time to reserve a table of eight for $500, or one place for $40, Elder said. Tickets can be reserved by calling 307-326-7822.
