Putting Riverside on the map

During the monthly Riverside Town council meeting at 6 p.m. on July 9, a guest from the Carbon County Museum presented a plan for the Town of Riverside and explained why the town should be involved. In addition, an update to the Riverside Bio-Dome was given.

Kelly Bohanan, Director of the Carbon County Museum, explained how they acquired land along I-80 near Rawlins on Merrill Hill and that they decided to create a interpretive trail that depicts a map of Carbon County. At each ‘town’ on the walking trail, Bohanan is looking to see physical structures for each town that can give tourists a feel for the area and its unique attributes.

“So what we want to do is generate some interest on the interstate, get them off the interstate and show them that there are other places they can go within our country there are other things to do,” said Bohanan. “You don’t have to go to Jackson if you don’t want to.”

Each town will be given the opportunity to present three different options as to what they want in their ‘town’ and the Museum will do the best they can to provide that for them.

Therefore, Bohanan wanted to get the idea into the Council’s mind, to brainstorm about some different structures that the town may want to include within the trail. She hopes that each town, including Riverside, could come up with three ideas by late fall.

The next Riverside Town council meeting will be at 6 p.m. August 13 at Riverside Town Hall.
