Copeland to reach out to homeschoolers

The Carbon County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees thanked retiring staff for their years of service.

The board recognized Debbie Kinniburgh, speech therapist for 38 years, Larry Hepner, facilities specialist for 26 years and Marilyn Brudigam, bus driver for 22 years for their commitment to the school district.

Kindergarten teacher Trista Ostrom has resigned and the board approved Andrea Jordan to fill the position for the 2015-2016 school year.

Jim Hinkle, school board member, was re-appointed to serve a one-year term on the Carbon County School District No. 2 Recreation Board.

Superintendent Jim Copeland informed the board he has made plans to reach out to the 40 known homeschooled students in the district. He said that he feels with the size and resources of the district, they have the unique ability to meet with homeschooling families to check up on their progress and let them know about the services the school district offers.

The next school board meeting is at 6 p.m. July 15 at the Central Office in Saratoga. On the agenda is the budget hearing of the 2015-2016 school year budget.
