VSO awards presented

Three women were recognized as Women of Distinction by the Valley Service Organization (VSO) May 28 at their regular meeting at the Hotel Wolf.

Two graduating seniors were also recognized for their community service and received a Youth Citizenship award and $350 cash award.

Doris Davis, Lynda Healey and Peg McAlister were all recognized as Women of Distinction for their volunteer work in the Platte Valley.

Doris Davis plays piano at the churches around Saratoga. Currently she is playing at the First Baptist Church, but she recently played for the Saratoga Alliance Church.

Davis also plays at the Saratoga Care Center nursing home.

Lynda Healey was recognized for her volunteer work as docent leader at the Saratoga Museum. Healey was recognized for building the volunteer base at the museum and then recruiting those volunteers to help with other events like the Platte River Rodeo and at the Platte Valley Community Center.

Peg McAlister was recognized for her many years of work at the Platte Valley Food Pantry. McAlister recently retired from her volunteer work at the pantry. McAlister has also been a blood donor for many years and was a deacon of her church.

"I have enjoyed every moment with the food pantry," McAlister said. "It has been very enjoyable living in this community."

Harold Jackson, of Encampment, was recognized for his volunteer work in Encampment. He was unable to make the luncheon as he was registering for school at the University of Wyoming, but his younger brother Gale attended to accept the award for Harold. Jackson has participated in several community plays, at Woodchoppers and in school.

Kelsie Samson, of Saratoga, was recognized for her volunteer work through service clubs in her school and the National Honor Society.
