Memorial Services

On Monday, the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will be holding memorial services to honor those who died while serving in the United States of America Armed Forces.

American Legion Post 54 will hold traditional services along with a 21-gun salute at 11 a.m. Monday.

On Friday at 4 p.m., members of the American Legion will decorate graves of veterans at the Saratoga Cemetery, said Deb Clark, adjutant for the American Legion.

Clark said if any veterans are being missed at the Saratoga Cemetery during Memorial Day, to contact her at 307-326-8600.

Following the memorial service, the American Legion is a hosting a luncheon for the public to attend at the post home.

Friday morning members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 6125 will be putting up the Avenue of Flags at the Encampment Cemetery in preparation for Memorial Day Services.

Students participating in the Congressional Awards program are helping to decorating the graves of veterans in the Encampment Cemetery and the Mountain View Cemetery east of Riverside.

Veteran H.R. Herring has been working on updating the names of veterans who are buried in each of the cemeteries. If any veterans are missed, contact VFW Commander Liz Wood at 307-329-7734.

Memorial Day services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the Encampment Cemetery. Traditional Memorial Day services will be performed by members of the Platte Valley VFW 6125 and after the presentation, members of the public can present wreaths in honor of their fallen.

Both ceremonies are open to the public.
