Fire department working to improve services

Brad Cary told the Saratoga Town Council May 5 that the Hughes fire in April drove home the potential of conflagration areas in the town of Saratoga by the Saratoga Volunteer Department.

The fire department wants to spend a lot more time preplanning and viewing structures that may need some mitigation.

Cary reported that 15 firefighters have had 45 days of training by attending three firefighter schools, and with that type of training, has it has lowered the Insurance Services Offices (ISO) rating has dropped from six to four because of the training.

In 2014, the fire department responded to 49 calls in the town of Saratoga.

Chief of Police Tom Knickerbocker requested that Bobby Chitwood be moved from part-time to full-time on the police department. That change would put the police department back to five full-time officers, but leave no part-time officers. Knickerbocker requested to advertise for two part-time police officers. The request was approved by the council.

The next Saratoga Town Council meeting is at 6p.m., May 19 at the Saratoga Town Hall.
